Dog Boarding Cost: Nightly Rates and Care Extras

Calculate dog boarding from published weight-based nightly prices, medication tiers and extra nights, with a checklist for care and pickup terms.

A boarding quote should explain what happens during the stay and what the nightly fee includes. Two businesses can quote the same rate while supplying different walks, feeding arrangements, medication support and pickup rules. Compare those services before multiplying a nightly number by the vacation length.

The table below uses Hamilton Plaza Animal Hospital’s own published prices in Dacula, Georgia, checked in October 2026. These are local starting fees rather than a nationwide boarding range. Weight bands and care categories belong to this provider and should not be applied to another facility’s quote.

Key figures

  • $32 Regular boarding under 30 pounds, nightly starting price
  • $42 Regular boarding over 99 pounds, nightly starting price
  • $95 Medical boarding over 99 pounds, nightly starting price

Regular boarding starts at $32–$42 per night

Hamilton Plaza describes regular adult boarding as including three daily walks, hospital food and bedding. Its premium tier also includes administration of up to three oral or topical medications daily. The medical tier applies to more than three such medications, injections or monitoring for long-term conditions.

An ordinary healthy-adult booking is not the same product as medical boarding. Nor should the label “medical” be assumed to mean continuous bedside observation. Ask what staffing, monitoring and escalation the quote supplies for the dog being booked.

Puppies up to twelve months have a separate published tier: $55 nightly under 30 pounds and $65 over 30 pounds. That is not the regular adult rate. As with the adult bands, clarify an exact boundary weight rather than inventing a price for it.

Seven nights show the effect of the care tier

For a dog clearly within the 31–50-pound band, seven regular nights at $35 total $245. Seven premium nights at $50 total $350, and medical nights at $70 total $490. The differences are $105 and $245 against regular boarding for that stay.

A fourteen-night stay at the same starting fees is $490, $700 or $980 respectively. These totals assume the stated rate applies throughout and exclude other charges. A long-stay discount should be included only when the provider confirms it.

Do not count calendar days as nights without checking the departure and return times. A Monday drop-off followed by a following-Monday pickup can mean seven nights, but late pickup or a separate day charge may change the bill. Ask how partial days are billed and which pickup window the estimate assumes.

The adult dog-care budget places boarding alongside other yearly expenses. Count the household’s expected stays rather than assuming one nightly rate represents all annual travel.

Medication instructions determine the booking category

Describe each medicine, its form, timing and the dog’s handling needs before reserving a standard kennel place. Hamilton Plaza’s premium tier describes up to three oral or topical medications daily; more than three moves to medical care, as do injections or monitoring needs described by the provider.

Clarify whether “three medications” means three products, three administrations or another counting method used by the clinic. A dog receiving one medicine twice daily is not automatically two different medications, and the public phrase should not be stretched into a dosing policy.

For a hypothetical four-night 40-pound-dog stay, regular rates would start at $140, premium at $200 and medical at $280. If the clinic assigns premium rather than regular care, the starting subtotal changes by $60. A cheaper category is not a valid comparison when it omits needed medication support.

The dog diagnostic-estimate guide helps separate any new medical investigation from the boarding charge. A boarding allowance does not automatically pay for an exam, tests or treatment if a new concern arises during the stay.

Vaccination, grooming and payment can add to the subtotal

Ask which vaccination records the facility requires and how far in advance any needed care has to occur. Do not buy a vaccine solely from the arithmetic example; the treating veterinarian and boarding policy determine the plan. Separate required preparation from optional add-ons.

For a cost example, seven regular $35 nights are $245. If a separately needed service were quoted at the hospital’s listed $20 Bordetella starting price and a bath at its $37 medium-dog starting price, the subtotal would be $302. Those lines are separate prices, not a published boarding bundle; an examination or other care could add more.

The hospital’s pricing page states that credit or debit card payment adds 3%. If that charge applies to a $302 subtotal, it is $9.06, giving $311.06 before any other charges. Confirm the payment arrangement rather than interpreting the nightly table as an all-in checkout amount.

An optional grooming appointment may be convenient before pickup, but it is still another service. Keep the coat and care decision in the dog grooming-quote guide and ask whether bath or grooming prices are included in the boarding estimate.

Pickup delays and care arrangements need a backup plan

Two extra nights at $35 add $70 to a regular stay; at the $70 medical rate they add $140. Those are calculations from the named rate, not a guarantee that an extension is available. Ask who can collect the dog if travel is delayed and how an extension is authorized.

The included three walks per day do not state each walk’s duration, group size or the staff present overnight. Request those details if they matter for the dog’s care. A photograph of an indoor pen cannot answer supervision, exercise or emergency-response questions.

Provide the dog’s food instructions, contact details, handling information and permission arrangements for urgent veterinary care. If the dog has a diet that must remain consistent, ask whether bringing it changes the fee and how the facility stores and serves it. Do not assume the included hospital food matches every dog’s existing plan.

Choose a stay the dog can tolerate

For a dog with health concerns or severe distress in a kennel, discuss the plan with the treating team and the facility before booking. Ask about monitoring and an alternative care arrangement when ordinary boarding cannot meet those needs.

CDC’s dog-care guidance supports attention to health, hygiene and veterinary care, but it does not certify a boarding business. Evaluate the actual provider’s policies and facility. ASPCA’s 2021 table lists $25 daily kennel or boarding as historical context; it should not override the current local quote or the dog’s care tier.

Keep food and treats consistent with the agreed care instructions and the guide to dangerous foods for dogs. An optional treat service should not introduce food the dog cannot safely receive.
